The Balanced Law Altar

This handcrafted altar is built as a working symbol of balance, truth, and consequence — a visual spell for weighing what is hidden against what is right.

At the center stands the coyote skull, the heart of the piece. In folklore and magical symbolism, coyote is the trickster and the survivor — the one who exposes imbalance, breaks false rules, and reveals uncomfortable truths. As the central figure, it represents the force that challenges deception and brings hidden motives into the open.

To one side rests a clear quartz rough point, acting as the amplifier of the altar’s purpose. Clear quartz directs and strengthens intention, ensuring that any work done with this altar is magnified and focused. It serves as the voice of clarity within the system of balance.

Opposite it stands a labradorite free form, the stone of threshold sight and hidden knowledge. Labradorite is used for veil-walking, intuition, and seeing beneath illusion. Its placement creates a counterweight to the quartz — truth revealed through vision rather than logic alone.

Flanking the structure are two moonstone palm stones, creating a mirrored duality. Moonstone governs cycles, emotional perception, and the pull of unseen forces. As a pair, they symbolize equal weighting — intuition and feeling placed on both sides of the scale, reinforcing the altar’s role in restoring equilibrium.

At the center of the altar’s imagery is a scale balanced beneath a half moon, representing judgment guided by unseen law rather than blind force. This image anchors the altar in the concept of justice informed by intuition, not impulse.

Beneath the structure lie two governing archetypes:
The Justice tarot card on the right side embodies accountability, fairness, and consequence — the principle that all actions are weighed.
The Moon tarot card on the left represents illusion, distortion, and hidden motives — what must be seen clearly before balance can be restored.
Together, they declare that truth must be uncovered before justice can act.

At the forefront of the piece rests a silver pentacle, the seal of elemental balance and containment. It represents harmony between earth, air, fire, water, and spirit, binding the altar’s energies into a controlled and purposeful form.

Throughout the resin, moonstone and labradorite chips are suspended like stars in a frozen current, reinforcing the themes of cycles, perception, and hidden movement beneath stillness. Encased in resin, the entire altar becomes a single preserved working — a moment of balance held in form.
